How to know if a client opened your proposal
An email “opened” flag does not mean the proposal was read. A live link records the visit, the device, and how long they stayed.
You can tell a client opened your proposal when the proposal is a web page and that page logs the visit. The Opened label on an email reports the message. It does not report the document inside the message.
What an email “opened” status counts
Email open tracking usually loads a small remote image when the message is displayed. If the image never loads, you see no open. If it loads without anyone reading, you still see an open.
Apple documents the second case. With Protect Mail Activity on, Mail downloads remote content in the background when the message arrives, whether or not the person reads it, and senders cannot tell whether the email was opened. Apple’s iPhone guide also says Mail Privacy Protection does not extend to links, or to attachments such as PDFs. Sources: Use Mail Privacy Protection on iPhone and Mail Privacy Protection & Privacy.
The email flag can change while the proposal sits unread. A PDF they then download has no route back to you. It is a file on their computer.
Send one link for that client
Put the proposal on its own URL and send the URL by email or WhatsApp. Keep one link for one client, so the visit stays attached to that deal.
On OfferNeo, an open is stored after the request passes a human-traffic check. The visit record includes:
- the recipient’s name and the time
- city and country taken from the IP address
- device type, operating system, and browser
- one duration for that session, not a time for each section
A later visit from the same person can be stored as another open. A person the client forwards the link to is a separate open. Telegram can alert you on the original open and on that share. You can also turn on a warning when an open comes from a different IP address.
The alert can go out on every open, or as a digest every 4, 12, or 24 hours. It names the customer and the proposal, and it includes the city and country on that open. You choose the frequency in Telegram settings.
Treat the city as a hint. A VPN or an office network can put the visit in the wrong place. The duration is one number for the whole visit. It does not show which paragraph they read.
Other events are separate from the open. Telegram can also tell you when someone requests a callback, accepts the proposal, completes a deposit or full payment, or downloads the PDF. The PDF download is the end of what you can see. Reading that file offline does not come back.
What to say when you follow up
Use the record to pick the moment. Leave it out of the message. “I saw you open this three times” makes the tracking the subject.
If they have opened it, write about the work: “Happy to walk through the scope on a short call if a decision is stuck.” If a second person opened the shared link, ask who else should be on the thread and offer to answer them. If a different IP warning fires, treat it the same way. The link may have moved. You do not need to mention the IP.
If nothing has opened, send the same link again with a short note that the first message may be buried. A second PDF does not tell you any more than the first one.
Sales teams use the open as the cue for that follow-up. The activity on the proposal is the source. The sentence the client reads is about the job.
